==History==
1-800 CONTACTS was founded in 1995 by Jonathan C. Coon and John F. Nichols, and incorporated in February that year. As the company's 2005 10-K report states, "Mr. Nichols is a certified optician in the State of California and was the co-owner of the Discount Lens Club from 1991 until February 1995. Mr. Nichols worked with Bausch & Lomb as a Senior Sales Representative from 1989 to 1991."〔 Mr. Nicholas and Mitchel Glanzbergh, owner of a small chain of optical stores called Spex Appeal, started the Discount Lens Club in which the number to call and order was "1800-CONTACTS". Mr. Glanzbergh handed the company to Mr. Nichols as Johnson & Johnson (their contact lens distributor) threatened to pull their distribution license, as Discount Lens Club was being run out of a Spex Appeal store and off of Spex Appeal's license.
In 2002, they acquired Lens Express.
